Ghosts

Double Exposures, Haints, and Other Apparitions

Apparitions and spirits have been a theme of folklore and literature since the written word. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, superstitions such as “haints” are mentioned but never fully explained. With photography, however, my definition of apparitions fall into the category of accidental double exposures, odd mistakes, strange developing effects and occasionally the intentional faked photograph purporting to show the apparition itself. Needless to say, I believe in apparitions, as long as I can hold it in my hand.
